Wikipedia states that Jamie Escalante was a Bolivian educator well known for teaching students calculus from 1974 to 1991 at Garfield High School in Los Angeles California. According to the (1988) film Stand and Deliver, Jaime Escalante was an inspiration to young and troubled students of Garfield. It is evident that he was an incredible motivational speaker, helping his students to succeed in algebra and calculus on their own merit.
